Malaya University (UM)


The University of Malaya (UM) is an open examination college placed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is the most seasoned and most regarded college in Malaysia. The college's name was abridged as Malaya amid the preindependence period.

The college was established in 1949 as an open financed tertiary establishment. Today, it has more than 2,500 employees. In 2012, UM was allowed self-rule status by the Ministry of Higher Education. In 2014, the QS World University Rankings has positioned UM at the 151st spot of the world.

The foundation of the college started with the issue of deficiency of therapeutic collaborators in Singapore and Penang amid the late 1890s.The issue was tended to in a report distributed by the Education Commission in April 1902. On 28 September 1905, Sir John administered the school under the name 'The Straits and Federated Malay States Government Medical School.

The school was placed in the old Female Lunatic Asylum close to the Singapore General Hospital at Sepoy Lines off New Bridge Road, where four of the shelter structures were changed over into a restorative school.
